A few weeks ago, when I was home with the mini sickie, one of my local interweb mom friends messaged me and asked me if I wanted to go to the Austin Mom Blogs's Night Out. Um...YEAH!
So come last Thursday morning, I put on the outfit I had planned to wear to the event. Since our house is the opposite direction of the event, I knew I wasn't going to have time to swing by the house and change. I started to drive to work and of course managed to spill coffee on myself. D'oh!

So while at work, I was trying to brainstorm how to get another outfit. On top of my coffee outfit, the weather was a bit sketchy and there was a possibility of rain. So I brought my coral Hunters with me to work. I had two pairs of jeans that were being altered at Nordstrom. So I called them to see if by chance they were done. Figured that if they were done, I could just grab a shirt to wear with them and throw on the cardigan that I originally had on. Nope. Weren't going to be ready until Friday.
Well bummer. So then I decided I would try to go to Nordstrom Rack and then if I couldn't find anything there, hop on over to the Old Navy that is in the same shopping complex. So I had a plan. Except as soon as I got onto the highway, I realized traffic was backed up because ZOMG it rained. And let me tell you something about Texas drivers. They have a hard enough time driving when it's sunny and DRY. So they're horrible drivers if there's a drop of water on the road. So I quickly managed to exit and as soon as I did, lo and behold, I found myself in front of a Target. I haven't bought anything from Target in a while.
When I walked in, I originally had my mind set on a black sheath dress. Something simple that wouldn't clash with my Hunters if I had to wear them. But I couldn't find anything that fit the bill. But then this little black velvet dress caught my eye. Ya'll know I love textures and so I am glad that velvet is back. Although, I will say, that when I saw this dress I instantly had a flashback to my 8th grade homecoming dance. Word of warning, this is from the junior's section and so I had to size up to a medium so I wasn't flashing everybody. While I could have worn my Hunters with this dress, I kind of felt it would look silly. So off to the shoe section I went. I managed to find these cute (and comfy!) lace up flats. I sized a half size up and that's probably why my feet weren't killing me by the end of the night.
Picked up a tube E.L.F. lipstick in 'Ruby Red' (I'm pretty certain that this could be the closest dupe for MAC 'Ruby Woo' I've ever found) for $3 and my emergency outfit was complete for a cost of $50!

Once I had my new outfit picked out, I quickly changed and was on my way to the event. From what I can tell, Mom's Blog hosts an event in the fall and the spring. The events raise money and supplies for a local charity. This time the beneficiary was the Austin Children's Shelter. After reading so many horrible stories about child neglect and abuse, I am glad that there are organizations like the Austin Children's Shelter, Safeplace and CASA of Travis County that help victims of neglect and abuse. After living through abuse myself and now that I am a mom, is a cause I am very passionate about. I look at Nathan everyday and I get so sad thinking about how there are so many children that aren't getting the love they deserve. I can't understand how somebody could hurt a child.
The night was full of getting bites from local food vendors like Snap Kitchen and Mad Greens. Libations were provided by 512 Tequila, Tekeen and Mule 2.0. There was also a raffle for attendees who brought much needed supplies for the Austin Children's Home.
As you can see, it was a lot of fun for a very good cause and I look forward to attending future Austin Mom's Blog events and supporting local charities.
