Weekend Shenanigans

Hi there!  I hope everybody had a good weekend!

During the summer, the heat and my constant migraines (I was getting a headache every weekend for SIX weeks in a row) and the insane Texas heat, I wasn't able to run very much.  Now that I'm taking classes, it's been hard to find time to run.  But last week I registered to run the Team Brock Halloween 5K.  Mindy and her friends have been helping raise money for a little boy named Brock who was diagnosed with Diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DILG), a n aggressive type of brain cancer.

The 5K helped raise funds for his medical treatment and for pediatric brain cancer research.  The race brought 450 racers and other members of the community came out to support Brock.  Team Brock was able to surpass their fundraising goals.  If you would like to learn more about Team Brock or help, you can check out their Facebook page here.

After the race, I went home to meet up with J and Nathan and we went to another coin show.  This one was just down the street.  One of the many things I love about Nathan's personality is that when he finds something that interests him, he dives all into his new hobby.  J and I know nothing about coins or coin collecting but Poppy does, so he usually goes with us to coin shows.  The exhibitors are always very kind, patient and even excited when Nathan comes by their booths.  Nathan will excitedly tell them about his coin collection at home.  Then the exhibitors will tell Nathan little factoids about their coins that Nathan files away in his brain.  One exhibitor even gave us a discount on a coin Nathan wanted because he hopes that Nathan's love of coin collecting will flourish and continue as he gets older in such a high tech world.

By the time we got done with the coin show and grabbed lunch, I could feel a migraine coming on. After several visits to my neurologist over the last year, I went back after having migraines six consecutive weekends in a row over the summer.  We decided to change up my maintenance medication routine and also try a new pain management medication to get rid of the pain.  I was happy that we had finally found a medication combo that prevented the migraines.  This weekend would have been the fifth since my last migraine.  But I don't know if it was the run or the fact that we waited so long to eat that triggered this one.  J dropped me back off at our house and then he and Nathan hung out at his mom's house so I could get some rest.  I hadn't had to take my pain med since it was prescribed.  I was in so much pain that I couldn't even fall asleep once I took my medicine.

Here is the progression of my migraine treatment.  I had a friend ask me what the knife was for. I told her that a knife to the head would probably feel better than the migraine.  Plus I didn't have an ice pick so I picked the next logical substitute.

That didn't work so I took down a pint of Ben and Jerry.  I had hoped that I could brain freeze the headache away.  But just in case I ended up taking another pill.  The ice cream and the second dose seemed to finally do the trick and I finally felt human again.  Just in time for J and Nathan to come home.

Sunday we had no real plans so a Sunday Funday was in order.

I have seen a lot of fashion bloggers half tucking their shirts so I decided to give it a try.  I like the look with shirt.TMI alert but I had to wear close toe shoes because I ended up losing a toenail after my race on Saturday.  #runnerproblems  That's why I can never go and get a pedicure because I'm usually missing at least one toenail at any given time.  Now that I'm grossed you out, one thing I want to point out is that by Sunday, I was on fifth day hair.  I mentioned in another post that I grabbed a bottle of Batiste dry shampoo.  I am very impressed with the results that I was able to achieve with this crazy hair of mine.  Usually by day three my hair starts to look flat.  I also starts to look and smell oily.  I spritzed Batiste in my hair every night before I went to bed so it could absorb the excess oil while I slept.   I did a few more sprays once I woke up every morning and then proceeded to curl my hair if need be.  I curled it on Friday, touched it up on Saturday and did nothing with it yesterday. Just put on my face and we were on our way.  I didn't even get these results with Living Proof.

J introduced Nathan to all things Nintendo over the summer.  His favorite games are anything that involves Mario.  J had read that some Dave and Busters had the arcade version of Luigi's Mansion. So we went to go check it out.  Lo and behold there it was in the middle of the arcade area.  When Nathan was done playing that game he discovered his other favorite game, Temple Run.  When he first started playing Temple Run on J's phone, he liked to make the guy run into everything but now he actually likes to play it and has gotten pretty good at it.  And no visit to Dave and Busters is complete without a MarioKart race.  J and I both placed second which was unacceptable to Nathan.  Ha.  He's a total ballbuster.

Tada!  I washed my hair today.  Ha!  By this morning I felt gross and a hair wash was necessary. Nothing super exciting for today's outfit.  I just needed something comfortable.  Well, I hope your week's off to a good start.  We survived Monday.  The rest of the week should be a piece of cake.
