Leopard and Stripes

Today I stayed home to be a mommy.  Since yesterday was Columbus Day, Nathan got to enjoy a three day weekend.  Except I had to go to work.  Before I left, I made Nathan his standard breakfast of Earth's Best waffles, gave him a hug and a kiss and went to work.

BP Leopard Print Scarf (it was old out online but  I managed to find mine in the new Domain Northside Nordstrom)
Old Navy Western Style Booties (similar here)

It was a crisp 49 degrees when I woke up this morning.  I love fall because I love layering pieces for my outfits.  Plus all the layers keep me warm and warmth was in order when I walked out the door this morning.  I will never tire of pattern mixing.  I decided to mix stripes and leopard.  I've done this combo before.  It's not a new mix for me.  But this scarf is.  Which not only is part of my mix today but my leopard scarf also helped keep me warm in my icebox office.

Not long after I arrived at work, I got a text from J that Nathan puked not once but twice since I left. The first time was in the kitchen trash can.  The second time he was hungry after being sick the first time, that he went rummaging through the pantry.  I guess his stomach had other plans and he threw up in the pantry.  Poor guy.  But luckily he didn't have any more episodes the rest of the day.  As he was going to sleep, he mentioned his eyeball had been hurting all day.  Cue the freakout.

By the time he was supposed to go to school this morning, he hadn't been puke or fever free for 24 hours.  Plus, when I checked his temperature it was 101.  I could tell he wasn't feeling good because he didn't wake up until 11:00 this morning.  He's been waking up by 9:00 since school started this year.  First grade must be kicking his butt.  While he slept, J scheduled an eye doctor appointment for Nathan.  So as soon as Nathan woke up, we changed his clothes, ran his brush through his hair and were on our way to see his eye doctor.  From what she could see without dilating his pupils, his eyeballs were fine.  As we were leaving the eye doctor, the mom of Nathan's school BFF texted saying that her son just notified her that another kid in school hit Nathan's eye and glasses.  Well, that would have been useful to know while we were in the exam room with the doctor.  We have an appointment in two weeks for Nathan's annual eye exam.  We're a few months late but I guess better late than never.  Until then, we'll continue watching and tracking his headaches and eye pain.  Never a dull moment in our house.  Ha.

Since I've been home with Nathan today, I thought I'd go ahead and take a picture of my Charles by Charles David 'Gunter' OTK boots that I ordered last week for $60.  If you remember, they were being sold during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for $150+ and sold out during the early access period.  I'm in love.  They look exactly like the much pricier Stuart Weitzman 'Lowland' boots but at a fraction of the cost.

My initial review of them is I CAN GET THEM OVER MY CALVES!!!!  Last year I bought the Aldo 'Barra' OTK boots but couldn't even get them over my calves.  So back they went.  Then I ordered the Ivanka Trump 'Livi' OTK boots but they kept slipping back down my legs because *cough* I have chubby legs.  I might take them to my shoe cobbler and either put in longer strings in the back to tie them tighter or see if they can add elastic at the top so they stay.  Hopefully it won't be too involved.  Since they are made with a fabric upper, they are stretchy which is helpful for people with a larger leg circumference.  So if you love them as much as I do, you can order them from
Bloomingdale for $78.88 BUT you can find a few sizes on the Nordstrom Rack website for $65.  I can't wait for it to get cold enough to wear them.
