Weekend Shenanigans: Motoring around

EToday's outfit is a repeat but for good reason.  This weekend was pretty busy.  It started off with us FINALLY getting the sod for our backyard delivered.  We had ordered it on March 21st and had been told we should receive it three weeks from then.  Well, due to a wet spring the supplier's supply was flooded.  So we were delayed an extra week.  And then another week.  So come Wednesday, the builder finally came out to correct some grading issues.  The grass got dropped Friday and then Saturday morning a crew came to lay the sod.  They made it look so easy.  I think they were done with our whole backyard in about an hour.  I think had J and I done it ourselves it would have taken us all day.  It's so nice to finally have a finished backyard.  Looking forward to hanging out back there with Nathan and the neighbors.  We get along so well with them that we're installing a gate between our two houses.  Let the shenanigans begin.  Ha.

Once the landscape crew left, we headed into downtown Austin.  We hate downtown Austin.  Or what it has become.  It has become so congested these days that we prefer to stay up north in our burbs.  But Nathan has been watching this character called Crazy Frog on Youtube.  And in one of the videos, he is driving an invisible car?  Motorcycle?  I don't know.  And the background music is the opening song for Knight Rider.  So J told Nathan about the origin of the song and Nathan's little mind was blown.  After watching the opening for Knight Rider, he has been obsessed.  He even renamed one of his little Hot Wheels, Knight Rider.  So, what does this have to do with trekking into downtown?  Well, the Austin Auto Show was going on at the Convention Center and we saw that K.I.T.T. was going to be there.  Along with the Mystery Machine and the Delorean from Back to the Future.  When we asked him if he wanted to go, he didn't hesitate with an excited YES.  So as much as we hate to venture into downtown, we do like to do things that Nathan enjoys.

Afterwards, I got hit by a migraine and took a short nap while J and Nathan went to go play at the neighbor's house.  Then I took it easy the rest of the night hanging out by their fire pit and getting eaten alive by mosquitos.

Then Sunday was another day of automobile action but of a different kind.  Nathan loves him some monster trucks.  Monster Jam was in town and so at the last minute, we ended up ordering tickets to go. Nathan loved seeing some of the real life trucks that he has in mini die cast versions.

He sat and watched as they did wheelie competitions, go cart racing, donut competitions and a timed race.  I think he really likes these events because of all the junk food he can eat.  He's a sucker for popcorn.  Ha.  But a little after intermission he was done and said he was ready to go home.  I think it was because he wanted to go home and play with his own monster trucks.  He even asked if J could bring his El Torro Locco Hot Wheel to school when J went to go pick him up.  So we packed it in his little playground bag and loaded it up in J's car as we were leaving this morning.  It's too cute.  And again, like Saturday, I got hit with another migraine.  I wasn't as lucky as Saturday to have J entertain Nathan while I rested.  He had to go up to work to get some work done.  But luckily Nathan was hungry after all that fun and took 45 minutes to eat his Thundercloud cheese sandwich and Baked Lays.  Which gave me some time to let my meds kick in.  But even after he ate, he wanted to just zone out and watch a few episodes of Super Wings.  You got it kiddo.

So we pretty much spent this weekend motoring around town.
