Well that was a bad idea

So Tuesday I did 7 miles and like an idiot, I decided it was a good idea to go running again last night.  BAD IDEA.  According to my Nike+ GPS app on my iPhone, I ran 6.39 miles but holy cheese it felt like it would never end.  So as you could imagine, by the time I got home I thought I was going to die.  I quickly scarfed down some yummy and fatty carbs from Olive Garden and passed out by 9:30 with the toddler.  Not before literally almost passing out in the kitchen as I tried to give Jason a goodnight kiss.  You know how I said I thought I had figured out a good pace?  Yeah maybe not so much.  I think I need to get some new tunes to jam out to on my runs.  I'm also finding it a bit challenging to add distance to my runs where I have adequate lighting and sidewalks so I don't get run over.  Tonight I will definitely be taking it easy since I'm still feeling a bit weird. 

As far as my outfits go, this week I've been a bit of a slacker.  Nathan's back to his old routine of no naps, so I usually rush over to the in-laws house in order to see him for an hour before he conks out in the car.  By the time I get him home, it's too dark to get a decent picture and he likes to snooze in our bed where the mirror is only a few feet away.  I did manage to get a picture of Tuesday's outfit.

Since I've had a lot of free time at night while Nathan rests, I've been trying out some new recipes.  A few weeks ago I got a huge spaghetti squash in my bushel and so off to Pinterest I went to find some recipes.  I was so excited when I found this one from My New Roots.  It seemed easy enough.

And it was just as yummy.  I think my new favorite green vegetable is kale.  I can't believe I've never had kale until recently.  I pink puffy heart kale with a little salt and pepper.  It smells and tastes so yumm-o.  I didn't have the cheese on hand and I can only imagine how yummy it would have tasted with the cheese.

Last week Farmhouse Delivery sent out the weekly bushel list and I saw that I was going to be getting brussel sprouts.  Again, this was another vegetable that I have never had and had no clue how to prepare it.  Have no fear.  Pinterest is here!  I found this recipe from Little Pink Monster.  I love that these recipes are so easy and only require a few ingredients.

The recipe called for red wine vinegar but when I took my bottle of red wine vinegar out of the pantry I realized it had expired.  Oh no!  So I just made up my own concoction using one part balsamic vinegar, one part olive oil and a squirt of honey and voila.  It was good for my first attempt but there are a few things I think I would recommend if you decide to attempt this recipe and that is to get good quality bacon.  Jason was going to the store to get a few things so I asked him to pick up some bacon while he was there.  He came back with generic bacon that was nothing but fat.  I also recommend cooking the bacon the old fashion way in a frying pan and tossing it in with the brussel sprouts and apples at the end because putting the bacon in the oven made them come out a bit soggy.  I had envisioned crunchy bacon but that is not what I got.  Ehhh...you cook and you learn.

Since I am still feeling pretty crummy from last night's run, I opted to go very casual with my outfit today.

Okay...now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pass out in the bed for a few minutes before J brings home the tornado.  Apparently he decided to take a nap the one day I feel like complete dog doo.  Figures.

  1. Kale? You got me! Brussel Sprouts with lots of bacon is about the only way I can eat them. ha! Even on your "off" week, your outfits are impressive... I hope you recover from all that running soon. Are you training for a marathon?

  2. I'm trying to get ready for the Austin Half Marathon that's on the 18th. Of course I have no idea what the course is like but somebody informed me today that it's really hilly. I'm going to die! Shirra thinks that I felt like crud this week because of my thin mint consumption. She may be right.
