Mini Party Animal

Happy New Year everybody!  Did you do anything fun to ring in 2012?  Our friends hosted a family New Year get together at her house.  It was a ton of fun for us adults and I think the kids enjoyed staying up late.  Nathan had fun playing with the other kids.

But he also had no problems playing on his own.  He enjoyed being able to play with different toys.

He even decided to do some drawing which was a surprise to us because he's never been super interested in drawing.  Maybe he just needed a different medium to work with.  We were also surprised to see that he liked using both hands to draw with.  I wonder when he will start showing a preference to one hand over the other.

But his FAVORITE activity of the whole night was climbing up and down the stairs.  Since we live in a one story house, Nathan doesn't get a whole lot of opportunity to practice climbing up and down stairs.  So he had lots of fun practicing.  By the end of the night he was a pro at climbing up and down the stairs.

Not even the REALLY calm cat, sitting in the middle of the bottom step,  could stop our little stair expert.

Then we moved the festivities outside and threw some cherry bomb at the ground.  Nathan thought the louder the activity the better but once he got bored, he decided that Mindy's car needed an inspection.  So he gave it a once over.  I think we're going to have to hide our car keys from him when he's 10.

Finally, it was time to countdown to 2012.  Our little night owl was wide awake.  Some of the other kids didn't make it.

But our little night owl had no problem staying awake with us.

I tried to get him to dance with me but he was more interested in the string that came out of the noise poppers.

After the champagne toast and hugs all around, we all loaded up into the car and headed home.  It didn't surprise us that Nathan fell asleep before Maryjane's house disappeared from view.  A fun night was had by all.  I'm sure 2012 has many more fun times ahead with our family and friends.  Hope your 2012 is off to a great start!

I'm a 35 year old working, running and shopping (not necessarily in that order) mom living in the burbs surrounding the beautiful city of Austin with my husband, our very active 5 year old and our rescue dog Buddy. This blog is my little space of the internet where I let my ADD run loose and I blog about...anything.
